MSN.com Rolls Out Preview

newmsnLate last night, the developers at Microsoft’s MSN, which is one of the most visited sites on the net according to Compete.com, rolled out a preview version of it’s new website design.

Since August 1995, MSN.com has offered visitors a look at some of the latest headlines from around the globe, a look into the entertainment world, a place to check out new items to purchase and has even offered its own search engine. The preview of MSN’s new website, is much more clean-cut, and has more of a modern feel.  The site will offer the same sections as it currently does but will primarily focus on videos, a new section to keep you updated on your social media feeds, and bring more local customizations to the homepage.

Overall, Microsoft hopes that the new look will appeal more to users and bring more people to the site.  In June of this year, Microsoft released it’s new updated version of the search engine Bing, which has been given it’s own website but will continue to be featured on MSN’s homepage.  Last month, Microsoft announced that they would team up with Twitter to bring real time updates to the site.  The Twitter feature has been live since the announcement and has received rave reviews.

MSNs big makeover is expected to be rolled out in full within the next several weeks.  You can check out the preview for yourself at http://preview.msn.com.

God, I hate this new MSN!! How do I get rid of the new Preview with but still keep MSN? I may have to dump MSN and go to AOL. Darn and they had it perfect before this crap started.

It’s too white and gray… too darn cold.

I hate it too. As far as I know, I did not ask to be in a test market for it so I’m not sure how I got it – but it sucks! Give me back my old MSN!!!!!!

Do Not Like the MSN preview. Too spread out. Doesn’t have the financial features in the same spot – have to look for them. Had to negotiate. I agree with the others – how do I get my old MSN back????

I’m getting tired as heck of having my normal version one minute, and then the MSN Preview the next minute. Geez, enough is enough. This back-and-forth crud is a fiasco. For cripes sakes, if it’s not ready yet, and MSN has to constantly switch back and forth(like 10 times a day), MSN needs to ditch it!!!! I’m about ready to use something else as my home page.

I hate the MSN Preview so much that I have switched over to FOXNEWS.com. My children switched to Yahoo.

I can’t stand it either. The white background is so bright it hurts my eyes. I’ll be switching my home page shortly.

I found out if you right click on IE icon and run as Admin it will be the good old IE-8 – not the new lousy MSN preview. I have asked and asked MSN how to get rid of the lousy preview and they refuse to answer. They forgot who made them rich!

I can’t stand this MSN Preview either. It showed up on my desktop, but not my notebook. I have tried everything to remove it such as deleting browsing history, cookies, etc. but the darned thing is still there. I wrote Microsoft and asked for help to revert back to the classic MSN, but they have not respnonded. People don’t like this UI and there are tons of postings from people saying that they hate it. But Microsoft is not budging. I think Microsoft is taking lessons from Apple. They don’t seem to be listening to customers anymore. Well, like Apple, they are wrong. There are alternatives. I moved my homepage from that butt ugly MSN Preview to Yahoo.com temporarily and I will wait to see if Microsoft smartens up. If my notebook reverts to the new equivalent of MSN preview, then I am done with MSN. I am not adverse to change, but I am adverse to a UI I just don’t like. And I have been living with this horrible product for weeks now. The screen is too bright and annoying, it is too spread out. Some things are located in multiple places making browsing difficult. The hover-over feature is annoying as hell. The entire UI is focused on cuteness and not functionality. I think the way to force Microsoft back to its senses will be if users just go away form MSN. They will know that they are getting much fewer hits and realizs that customers needs are more important than their developer egos. You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need.

I do not like the new MSN preview. If something is not broken it should not be “fixed”.

Well, my previous post ref running MSN as Admin to get IE-8 no longer works. Guess the jerks at MSN found out and took that away from us. I hate the preview – does any one know how to remove it? I have searched the internet and asked MSN (course they will not answer me) and have found nothing.

I agree that the preview site is awful. I got the original back by first changing my home page to a different site. I then went to Tools, Internet Options and clicked the “Use default” button to change the home page back to MSN. So far so good! We’ll see how long it lasts.

Here you go. Click on a new tab, open an “Inprivate” browsing window and then click on the home page button, this will then bring up the old MSN homepage.

To Carl: I just tried your suggestion to right click the icon and open it as administrator. That still worked for me. Dom’s method did too. Of course they apparently are changing the site itself and no option will be available in the future as I understand it.

“Overall, Microsoft hopes that the new look will appeal more to users and bring more people to the site.”

Well, judging from the negative posts, I think they’d better hope that “Overall”, it appeals to ANY users and brings ANYONE to the site. I hope their competition looks around so they know what not to do to a good site.
