Commerce Search From Google Helps Online Businesses

googlemoneyGoogle has released yet another new feature that should help with online businesses.  Earlier this week, Google announced a new Google Checkout feature, which allows users to enable a checkout button on the site to promote sales. Now, the Google Commerce Search tool will be useful for online businesses by improving product searches on their site, along with possibly increasing sales and reducing bounce rates.  The search is almost identical to Google’s main search, but it’s geared specifically toward business websites. The idea is to help find products being sold.  Google is expecting the tool to grow significantly in the new few weeks, as businesses prepare for the upcoming holiday season.

“Visitors spend an average of just eight seconds before deciding whether or not to remain on a website,” a Google rep said.  “So having a good search tool is important for turning visitors into buyers.”

When a potential consumer arrives on the website, he or she will be able to use the search tool to search for a product.  A second later the results will be returned in a user-friendly e-commerce product page.  If users want, they’ll be able to click on the item they want and add it to their cart. The best part for website owners?  They have total control over how it looks. Being able to filter results through specifications like category, brand, or price, and sorting search results by any attribute.

Results can be viewed in either a list or grid view, as you can see on any major online store. By using this feature on your Web site, you can actually control which product categories are promoted at the top or sent to the bottom of results.

Google hasn’t publicly released how much this will actually cost websites, but many small businesses are expected to jump into using this new feature.  Google posted this video on YouTube explaining more on how the search is used.
